Panoramic, panopticon. In my still photography I attempt to encompass the world. But it is not a seamless thing, its collaged from multiple viewports, angles, times. The world is a spinning gyre and if we try very hard we can hold to the center, if only for a moment, in a balanced composition.
I came to photography initially via time-lapse: I was painting the city, and capturing the movement of the light processing across the forms, I wanted to see this mysterious movement animated. I watched Koyaanisqatsi projected on the rough hewn wall of a squat in Prague late one night, I realized I needed to pick up a camera.
